  • Solar panelSolar panels, or photovoltaic (PV) cells convert sunlight into electrical power. A typical installation is made up of either silicon crystal panels or using more recent innovations, such as thin-film, which is often fitted into a frame on a property.
The electricity in gathered through the panels knocking electrons loose and causing a current. This is then converted into the AC electricity for everyday use using either inverters or micro-inverters.
As an encouraged source of renewable energy, the Government has approved a scheme which can see businesses gain financially through what is known as the Feed in Tariff, as well as cutting their bill through the electricity they use from their installation.

  • Electricity monitorThe Feed in Tariff was first introduced in Europe to promote renewable and low carbon sources of energy, by allowing people to claim money back from new energy. It became available in this country in April 2010 to organisations and business in England, Scotland and Wales.

There is a fixed payment for the electricity a business generates, which is known as the “generation tariff”, and any unused electricity which is produced is sent back to the national grid, and produces revenue in the form of an “export tariff”.
Needless to say, any electricity which you generate and use from the installation is completely free as well. For more about FiTs, click here, or to learn about our finance options click here.

Huhne hits out at renewables critics

Energy Secretary Chris Huhne yesterday hit out at critics of renewable energy, branding them “armchair engineers”. According to numerous reports, a speech he gave to delegates at a RenewableUK event in Manchester thinly attacked chancellor George Osborne’s seemingly critical stance on the growing industry. He defended subsidies for new energy sources, saying there is a greater subsidies for fossil fuels worldwide by a factor of five. A review of subsidies for solar pv will be put in place in April 2012. To get your solar installation fitted and registered by then, click here to get started.
